Billings agrees to deal with Browns, agency says

Former Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Andrew Billings has agreed to a contract with the Cleveland Browns, SportsTrust Advisors, the agency that represents him, announced Thursday.

Billings, 25, developed into one of the Bengals’ most reliable interior linemen over the past three seasons, missing just one game over that span.

“Excited for this next chapter @Browns!” Billings wrote on Twitter.

In 2019, he made 14 starts and tallied 35 tackles, with four of them coming behind the line of scrimmage. Despite his presence, the Bengals struggled against the run in 2019, finishing last in the league in rushing defense.

Source: Steelers add 2nd Watt brother, FB Derek

There’s room for one more Watt in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers are adding fullback Derek Watt, brother of Pro Bowl linebacker T.J. Watt, on a three-year, $9.75 million contract, a source told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. The deal makes Derek Watt one of the highest-paid fullbacks in the NFL.

Though the Steelers don’t run a fullback-heavy offense — fullback Roosevelt Nix hasn’t played more than 16% of snaps in a season — Watt will be a major piece of Pittsburgh’s special teams with the departure of captain Tyler Matakevich to the Buffalo Bills.

Watt and Matakevich topped the league with 16 special-teams tackles last season. Matakevich led the Steelers with 340 special-teams snaps last season, while Watt was second on the Chargers behind linebacker Nick Dzubnar (332) with 326 snaps. Watt’s 16 special-teams tackles led the team, and helped earn him a Pro Bowl first-alternate honors as a special-teams player.

The Watt brothers are the second set of brothers on the Steelers’ roster, joining running back Trey Edmunds and safety Terrell Edmunds.

Selected in the sixth round by the Chargers in the 2016 draft, Watt’s strength is his versatility as a run blocker, pass catcher and core special-teams player, but he played in just 122 snaps on offense last season. Watt also recorded his first touchdown as a pro in a Week 14 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

He also played in games against brothers J.J. (Week 3 against the Texans) and T.J. (Week 6 against the Steelers) last season. A prolific runner in high school, Derek Watt totaled 2,685 rushing yards and 44 touchdowns during his prep career. He also served as the team’s kicker and punter, earning Wisconsin state player of the year and USA Today All-America honors his final season at Pewaukee High School.

After a short stint at linebacker at Wisconsin, Watt switched back over to the offensive side of the football to learn the fullback position and has been there ever since, finding his true calling as an NFL player.

In addition to signing Watt, the Steelers also resigned long snapper Kameron Canaday to a two-year deal, a source told ESPN. Canaday has been the Steelers’ full-time long snapper since 2017 after spending his first season in Arizona, where he appeared in three games.

Cult hero offensive lineman Zach Banner is also coming back to Pittsburgh on a one-year deal.

Used as an extra offensive lineman, and yes, eligible receiver, Banner will be even more important this year with the retirement of Ramon Foster and the expected departure of other linemen in free agency. Banner played 22% of offensive snaps last year and had some bright spots in the run game.

Against Arizona, he played 25 snaps — including two plays where running backs gained 9 and 16 yards. Banner’s one-year, $1.75 million prove-it deal, which he confirmed on Twitter Tuesday night, gives him a chance to show he’s more than a gimmick.

Fantasy football reaction to NFL free agency

We will offer 2020 fantasy football analysis and updated projections off of the most notable NFL free-agent signings and trades throughout the early portion of the signing period.

  • Henry returns as the feature back in Tennessee after pacing the NFL in carries (303), rushing yards (1,540) and rushing touchdowns (16) in 2019. Henry has been an absolute force as a rusher, ranking no lower than third in YAC each of the past three seasons. His heavy recent workload is a concern, but the good news is that he’s 25 years old and had not cleared 215 carries in a season prior to 2019. Henry’s minimal workload as a receiver (career-high 18 receptions last season) will continue to limit his fantasy output. Coupled with a probable dip in rushing production, he should be valued as a back-end RB1.

Drake was somewhat-surprisingly tagged on Monday and will resume duties as Arizona’s feature back in 2020. The 2016 third-round pick was traded from Miami to Arizona at the 2019 trade deadline and went on to handle 66% of the team’s carries (15.4 per game) and 14% of the targets (4.4) from Week 9 on. He ranked fourth among running backs in fantasy points during the span. Arizona’s offense should only improve in Kliff Kingsbury’s and Kyler Murray’s second season, so Drake very much has back-end RB1 upside. David Johnson and Chase Edmonds, meanwhile, take a big hit in value and are no more than late-round fliers.

WR A.J. Green gets franchise tag from Cincinnati Bengals

Green is back in orange after missing the entire 2019 season due to injury. Green will turn 32 this season and has missed at least six regular-season games in three of the past four seasons. Despite the durability woes, he’s remains a fantasy force, ranking no worse than 16th in fantasy points per game in any of his eight NFL seasons. Green will obviously be a risky investment, but the superstar receiver can be considered a WR2 target in 2020 fantasy drafts. The expectation is he’ll be catching passes from rookie QB Joe Burrow.

Prescott will be back under center for Dallas following his best professional season in 2019. He ranked no lower than sixth among quarterbacks in pass attempts (596), completions (388), passing yards (4,902), passing touchdowns (30), yards per pass attempt (8.2) and average depth of throw (9.4), all while dealing with a league-high 30 drops. Also a factor as a rusher (52-277-3), Prescott finished a career-best second at the position in fantasy points. Armed with a terrific line, as well as Michael Gallup (and perhaps Amari Cooper), Prescott should be considered a solid QB1 option.

QB Ryan Tannehill re-signs with Tennessee Titans

Tannehill signed a four-year extension with Tennessee following an impressive bounce-back 2019 campaign in which he completed 70% of his passes (third in NFL) and averaged 9.6 yards per pass attempt (first). The Titans scored three-plus touchdowns in 12 of Tannehill’s 13 starts, which helped the 31-year-old to the third-most fantasy points among quarterbacks from Week 7 on. He is a strong bet for statistical regression to the mean, so with the Titans’ extremely run-heavy offense also in mind, the veteran passer is best viewed as a solid QB2 option in 2020 fantasy leagues.

NFL

Sources: Titans out on Brady, eye Tannehill deal

The Tennessee Titans are not interested in Tom Brady and are working hard to get a deal done with quarterback Ryan Tannehill, sources tell ESPN’s Dianna Russini.

Tennessee has been widely speculated as a potential free-agent destination for Brady, given the Titans’ impressive postseason run and Brady’s friendship with Titans coach Mike Vrabel.

But sources tell Russini that Tennessee’s focus at quarterback is bringing back Tannehill, who also is scheduled to become a free agent.

Sources told ESPN’s Jeff Darlington last month that Brady, at the time, was operating under the belief that he would enter free agency to play somewhere other than the New England Patriots next season.
